Song Deconstruct

Immigrant Song – Led Zeppelin

Lesson Introduction

Learn how to construct a song using a simple rudiment (paradiddle) expanded to play between the snare, bass and hi-hat.

Learn to play around the drum kit free form and play along with a metronome at 115 BPM approximately the same tempo of the song.

Prerequisite: Good Understanding of Rudiments

Play a Paradiddle

The foundation I’ll use here is a paradiddle – R L R R L R L L

Hands & Feet

Let’s convert the pattern to play between the snare drum and the bass drum. Left hand on the snare drum right foot on the Bass drum.

R = Bass Drum = F
L = Snare Drum = S

F S F F S F S S

Tips

Start off slowly at a pace which is comfortable, concentrate on accuracy and don’t race.

Once comfortable with playing it slowly, notch up your Metronome to a maximum of 115 BPM as displayed in the video.

In this Video, you’ll see how I build the beat using a Paradiddle between the hands and the feet.
